Alvin serves as the primary computing support specialist for the Office of the Dean for Research, Corporate Engagement and Foundation Relations, and Laboratory Animal Resources where he provides website, computer-hardware and -software support. Alvin’s prior experience includes providing technical support for Princeton’s Davis International Center, the New Jersey School Board Association, several private corporations, as well as teaching at the Mercer County Community College. Alvin received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Kean University.
Karla Ewalt - Associate Dean for Research

Karla is responsible for research policy leadership, research administration guidance, and overseeing strategic communications for the Office of the Dean for Research. Karla represents the Office on numerous University-wide committees and initiatives. She also represents the University in its relationships with various public and private funding and regulatory agencies. Karla received her doctoral degree in chemistry from the University of California-San Diego and was a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, focusing on protein structure and folding. Prior to joining Princeton, she was a co-founder in two start-up companies focused on developing biological drug candidates.

Mary provides strategic proposal development support on multi-investigator, interdisciplinary grant applications to federal funding agencies. She also contributes to various campus-wide strategic communications efforts on behalf of the Office of the Dean for Research. Prior to joining Princeton in 2013, Mary was Operations & Communications Manager for the infectious diseases R&D unit at GlaxoSmithKline. Earlier, at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, she was responsible for fostering interdisciplinary research proposals and institutional training grant applications as Associate Director for Research. Mary received her doctorate in molecular biology from Yale University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in developmental genetics at the University of California-San Francisco.
Annette Tate - Assistant Director for Finance and Administration

Annette manages the operational and administrative functions of the Office of the Dean for Research, including overseeing the endowed research funds, departmental budgets and HR processes. She also serves as secretary of the University Research Board (URB) and manages the PI request process for the University. Prior to joining Princeton in 2007, Annette was Operations and Finance Manager at The Nature Conservancy, and spent several years in the hedge fund industry in San Francisco. Annette holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in history.
Catherine Zandonella - Communications Manager

Catherine supports the University's efforts to educate the public about the outcomes and societal benefits of research conducted by faculty members, staff researchers and students. She is the editor of Princeton's annual magazine Discovery: Research at Princeton, and writes regularly about research in articles that appear in print and on the University's homepage. Prior to working at Princeton, Catherine was a science writer for magazines such as New Scientist and National Geographic’s Green Guide. She holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology from the University of California-Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in public health from the University of California-Berkeley. She also earned a science writing certificate at the University of California-Santa Cruz.
Lieve Monnens - Department Coordinator

Lieve provides administrative support to the Dean’s office and to various programs, special projects and research communications. Prior to joining Princeton, Lieve was the meetings & events coordinator and graphic designer for the American Physical Therapy Association of New Jersey. She also worked in various positions for medical communications organizations in the UK. Lieve holds an associate's degree in communications as well as graphic design.
