Fruitfly research reveals secrets of development

This video is an overview of research in fruitfly embryonic development in Stas Shvartsman's lab at Princeton University.

By studying the common fruitfly, Shvartsman's lab in the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics is learning how cells signal each other in order to grow from the simple structure of an embryo into a full-grown, complex creature. The lab combines imaging, computational, and genetic approaches in order to develop and experimentally test mathematical models of embryonic development.

Shvartsman is a professor of chemical and biological engineering.
