Dear Colleagues,

As many of you know, an ORCiD ID is a digital persistent identifier that researchers own and control, and that distinguishes an individual from every other researcher in the world. By May 2025, most federal funding agencies will require ORCiD IDs on proposal submission documents and progress reports. We strongly encourage all scholars at Princeton to have an ORCiD ID and to maintain their personal information associated with that ID.

We are pleased to announce a new University resource, ORCiD@Princeton, which provides information about ORCiD and allows Princeton scholars to easily establish an ORCiD ID. You can also easily connect your ORCiD ID to your Princeton NetID – it should take less than a minute.

Linking an ORCiD ID to Princeton will help the University identify published works as belonging to Princeton scholars. The University is also currently designing ways for linked researchers to send relevant Princeton data (e.g. appointments, affiliations) to their ORCiD record to help meet funder and publisher requirements, and to reduce the administrative burden of re-entry of information across platforms. The Princeton link to your ORCiD ID can be removed by you at any time.

Please reach out to the Princeton Research Data Service with questions or if you need assistance establishing your ORCiD ID or linking it to your Princeton NetID.

Sincerely,

Peter and Anne
