Supporting AI and Machine Learning Research at Princeton

Recognizing the emerging applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning across a broad range of research disciplines, the University has several information resources and computing infrastructures available to support research activities by members of the campus community.

Princeton Language and Intelligence (PLI) Cluster

A specialized shared computing facility for researchers examining Large Language Models and applications, managed through Research Computing.

SEAS Cluster

A GPU-enabled cluster for School of Engineering and Applied Sciences investigators, managed through the Department of Computer Science ([email protected]).

Research Computing Systems

Licensed AI Tools

AI Sandbox for Faculty (Login required)

An environment for working with chatbots, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and public open-source Large Language Models (LLMs). 

Licensing Cloud Services 

The campus community can obtain assistance with AI product selection, licensing, and procurement from Research Computing ([email protected]).

Microsoft Copilot

The Office of Information Technology provides access to a Generative AI assistant that can be used to generate multi-modal content.

AI Lab Seed Grants

The AI Lab offers a seed grant program for AI faculty and lecturers.

CSML Research Software Engineering Support

Undergraduate Student Research Funding

Undergraduate student research funding is made available through the Student Activity Funding Engine (SAFE). This funding portal contains all types of undergraduate funding opportunities, potentially including any related to generative AI research. 


Shared Community Resources

National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot

NAIRR provides a shared national research infrastructure for hosting AI research projects. It is available to US-based researchers and educators from US-based institutions submitting competitive proposals.

New Jersey AI Hub

The Hub seeks to bring together AI researchers, industry leaders, start-up companies, universities and colleges and others to advance research and development, ethical AI for societal impact, and promote workforce development.
